In Memoriam: Marjorie Silbermann Cowen, 1941-2019

Majorie Cowen, a college administrator and the wife of the former president of Tulane University in New Orleans, died at Tulane University Medical Center from complications from a fall on December 16, the day before her 78th birthday.

Cowen was a native of Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. She earned a bachelor’s degree at Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio, and a master’s degree in business administration at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

After earning her master’s degree she joined the staff at Case Western Reserve University as an administrator and development officer. She spent 16 years on the staff at the university. While there she met her husband Scott Cowen, who was a professor and dean of the Albert J. Weatherhead School of Management.

When Professor Cowen was named president of Tulane University, the couple moved to New Orleans. At Tulane, Majorie Cowen served as senior adviser for external affairs.
