Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Names its First Woman President

Jill A. Murray was named as the ninth president of Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pennsylvania. When she take office on July 1, 2020, Dr. Murray will be the first woman to serve as president of the college.

The college enrolls about 1,900 students, according to the latest data supplied to the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 53 percent of the student body.

Dr. Murray has been serving as the college’s executive vice president and chief innovation officer. From 2008-2012, she operated as the college’s vice president of academic affairs.

“The mission of Lackawanna College is focused on our students and how we can guide them to drive success within our communities,” Dr. Murray stated. “It is truly an honor to be appointed to lead Lackawanna College at such a pivotal point in our history. I look forward to working to fulfill the College’s mission of providing a quality education to all students who want to improve their lives.”

Dr. Murray is a graduate of the University of Scranton, where she majored in philosophy. She holds a master’s degree in philosophy from the University at Albany of the State University of New York System and a Ph.D. in human development from Marywood University in Scranton.
