Teresa Sullivan to Serve as Provost at Michigan State University

Teresa Sullivan, the former president of the University of Virginia, will serve as interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at Michigan State University.

“Terry has a wealth of experience as a provost and previous university president and will help us tremendously as we weather through our changes at Michigan State as well as our search for a new provost,” said Michigan State University President Samuel L. Stanley Jr.

Dr. Sullivan served as president of the University of Virginia from 2010 to 2018. Earlier, she was provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Michigan. She also was a professor of sociology. From 2006 to 2010, she was executive vice chancellor for academic affairs for the University of Texas System.

Dr. Sullivan is a graduate of Michigan State University. She holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago.
