Arizona State University Adds Three Women to Its English Department Faculty

Emily Cooney is a new lecturer in writing programs. She is is a specialist in environmental rhetorics, place-based literacies, and second-language writing pedagogy. Dr. Cooney holds a master’s degree in English literature from the University of Charleston in South Carolina and a Ph.D. in English rhetoric, composition, and linguistics from Arizona State University.

Andrea Dickins is also a new lecturer in writing programs. Her research interests span rhetoric, religion, literature, and creative writing. She is the author of the book The Female Mystic: Great Women Thinkers of the Middle Ages (I.B. Tauris, 2009). Dr. Dickens holds a Ph.D. in theology, ethics and culture from the University of Virginia and master’s degrees in creative writing from Ohio State University and religion from the University of Virginia and Yale University.

Kathleen Hicks was named director of online programs. She has previously taught composition in the university’s English department. Dr. Hicks continues in her associate editor role at The Steinbeck Review, a journal on the life and works of American novelist John Steinbeck that is published by Pennsylvania State University Press. She holds a Ph.D. in English literature from Arizona State University, and a master’s degree in English and American literature from the University of Texas at El Paso.
