Three Women Scholars Who Have Been Appointed to Named Faculty Posts

Nina Stark has been named the Anthony and Catherine Moraco Faculty Fellow at Virginia Tech. She has been a Virginia Tech faculty member since 2013 and currently serves as an associate professor of civil and environmental engineering in the College of Engineering.

Dr. Stark holds a master’s degree in geophysics from Westphalian Wilhelms University in Germany and a doctorate in marine geotechnics from the University of Bremen in Germany.

Julie Dorsey has been named the Frederick W. Beinecke Professor of Computer Science at Yale University. She has been a Yale faculty member since 2002 where she conducts research on computer graphics.

Dr. Dorsey holds two bachelor’s degrees, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D. all from Cornell University.

Elizabeth Marvin has been named the Minehan Family Professor at the University of Rochester. She is a professor of music theory in the Eastman School of Music and a professor of brain and cognitive sciences in the School of Arts & Sciences. She is the co-author of three textbooks including The Musician’s Guide to Theory and Analysis (W.W. Norton, 2004).

Dr. Marvin is a graduate of the College of Wooster in Ohio, where she majored in music. She holds a Ph.D. in music theory from the University of Rochester.
