Anita Mahadevan-Jansen Elected to the Presidential Track of SPIE

Anita Mahadevan-Jansen has been elected to serve as the 2020 vice president of SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. The society serves 257,000 members from 173 countries. She will serve as president-elect in 2021, and as president in 2022.

Dr. Mahadevan-Jansen currently serves as the Orrin H. Ingram Professor of Engineering and director of the Biophotonics Center at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. She has been a Vanderbilt faculty member since 1997. Her research focuses on biophotonics, optical spectroscopy and imaging for disease detection, neurophotonics, cancer diagnosis, optical guidance of surgery, and clinical translation of optical technologies.

Outside of her work at Vanderbilt, Dr. Mahadevan-Jansen serves on the founding board of the International Society of Clinical Spectroscopy and has served on the editorial boards of Applied Spectroscopy, Journal of Biomedical Optics, and Neurophotonics. She is a fellow of The Optical Society of America and the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering.

Dr. Mahadevan-Jansen holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree both in physics from the University of Bombay in India, and a master’s degree and Ph.D. both in biomedical engineering from the University of Texas.
