In Memoriam: Byrdie Annette Larkin, 1952-2019

Byrdie Larkin, a long-time professor of political science at Alabama State University, died unexpectantly at her home in Prattville, Alabama, on June 2. She was 67 years old.

Dr. Larkin joined the faculty at Alabama State University in 1977. At the time, she was the only women faculty member in the department of political science. She taught at the university for 39 years until her retirement in 2016. During her tenure, she chaired the political science department and served as president of the Alabama Political Science Association and as a member of the executive board of the National Conference of Black Political Scientists.

Professor Larkin was the author of That Our Faith May Be Tested (WestBow Press, 2014) and the novel Reserviors (WestBow Press, 2017.

Dr. Larkin was a graduate of Alabama State University. She held a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in political science from Clark Atlanta University.
