Kelli Brown Appointed Chancellor of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina

Kelli R. Brown has been named chancellor of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, North Carolina. Dr. Brown will assume her new duties on July 1.

According to the latest data supplied to the U.S. Department of Education, the university enrolls more than 9,000 undergraduate students and about 1,600 graduate students. Women make up 55 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Currently, Dr. Brown is provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville. Previously, she served as interim president of Valdosta State University in Georgia, interim dean and professor at the University of Florida, interim dean of the graduate school and professor at the University of South Florida, and various positions at Illinois State University and Western Illinois University.

Dr. Brown’s research interests include school and community partnerships, prevention (social) marketing, and adolescent and youth health issues. She served as the president of the Society for Public Health Education from 2012 until 2014 and was the editor of the Journal of School Health from 2008 until 2011.

Dr. Brown holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in public health both from the University of Toledo in Ohio and an educational doctorate from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
