Eight Women Appointed to Dean Posts at Colleges and Universities

Oya Tukel has been named dean of the Martin Tuchman School of Management at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. She has over 27 years of experience at Cleveland State University in Ohio where she has served as a professor of operations and supply chain management, department chair for supply chain management and finance, director of graduate programs, and director of student engagement and success.

Dr. Tukel is a graduate of the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, where she majored in industrial engineering. She holds a Ph.D. in decision and information sciences from the University of Florida.

Lee Skinner has been named dean of Newcomb-Tulane College at Tulane University in New Orleans. She will also serve as a faculty member in the department of Spanish and Portuguese. Currently, she serves as the associate dean of the faculty and professor of Spanish at Claremont McKenna College in California.

Dr. Skinner is a graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where she majored in comparative literature. She holds a Ph.D. in Spanish from Emory University in Atlanta.

Karen Richardson has been named dean of admission at Princeton University in New Jersey. She currently serves as dean of admissions and enrollment management at Tufts University in Massachusetts.

Richardson is a first-generation college graduate of Princeton University where she majored in politics. She holds a master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Janet Lohmann has been promoted to dean for student affairs at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. She was dean of students at Bowdoin where she has also served as a sociology professor.

Dr. Rose holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in social relations from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and a doctorate in sociology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Lisa Garcia Bedolla has been named vice provost for graduate studies and dean of the graduate division at the University of California, Berkeley. She currently serves as a professor of education and the director of the Institute of Governmental Studies. She has been a university faculty member since 2008.

Dr. Bedolla is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, where she double majored in Latin American studies and comparative literature. She holds a Ph.D. in political science from Yale University.

Leslie Grinage has been named dean of the college at Barnard College in New York City. She currently serves as associate dean of students in the Division of Student Life at Davidson College in North Carolina.

Dr. Grinage is a first-generation college graduate of Davidson College where she majored in Spanish. She holds a master’s degree in educational administration from Texas A&M University and a doctorate in higher education leadership and policy from Vanderbilt University in Nashville.

Glenda M. Prime has been named dean of the School of Education and Urban Studies at Morgan State University in Baltimore. She currently serves as a full professor and chair of the department of advanced studies, leadership, and policy. She has been a faculty member at Morgan State since 1999.

Dr. Prime holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, and statistics, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D. in education all from the University of the West Indies in St. Augustine, Trinidad.

Debra Zeifman has been named dean of studies at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. She is a professor of psychological science and has been a Vassar employee since 1996.

Dr. Zeifman holds a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and Ph.D. all in human development from Cornell University.
