Barbara Mistick Appointed President of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities

Barbara K. Mistick has been named president of the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU). Based in Washington, D.C., the NAICU is the largest organization representing independent, nonprofit colleges and universities on federal issues. Dr. Mistick will assume her new duties on September 1, 2019.

Dr. Mistick has served as the president of Wilson College in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania since 2011. During her tenure, the college has reduced tuition, created a student debt buyback plan, added academic programs in health care and other areas, addressed infrastructure needs, improved marketing, opened all degree programs to co-education, and experienced record enrollment growth, nearing 1,500 students in fall 2018.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Mistick served as president of the Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She has also taught at the H.J. Heinz School of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University and at the National Education Center for Women in Business at Seton Hill University.

Additionally, Dr. Mistick is the board chair of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities and a member of the executive committee of the Board of Directors of the Council of Independent Colleges. She is the co-author of Stretch: How to Future-Proof Yourself for Tomorrow’s Workplace (Wiley, 2016)

Dr. Mistick is a graduate of Carlow University in Pittsburgh. She holds an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh and a doctor of management degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.
