New Administrative Posts for Nine Women at Major Universities in the United States

Diane E. Lopez has been named vice president and general counsel at Harvard University. She currently serves as deputy general counsel and has been with Harvard’s Office of the General Counsel since 1994.

Lopez is a graduate of Mouth Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, where she majored in politics. She holds a juris doctorate from Columbia University.

Ericka Smith has been named vice president and chief human resources officer at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. She was vice chancellor for human resources at North Carolina A&T State University.

Dr. Smith holds a master of education degree in personnel administration from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Ph.D. in conflict analysis and resolution from Nova Southeastern University.

Magda Vergara has been named director of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Miami. She was associate director of alumni relations communities at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Dr. Vergara is a graduate of Yale University where she majored in business and minored in Spanish literature. She holds a master’s degree from New York University and a Ph.D. in Spanish literature from the University of Virginia.

Judith Bree has been named director of professional programs in the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She has served as Isenberg’s director of undergraduate online programs and business development for the past six years.

Bree holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree both from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

Tonya Matthews has been named associate provost for inclusive workforce development and director of STEM learning innovation at Wayne State University in Detroit. She most recently served as the inaugural president and CEO of the Michigan Science Center, transforming the Detroit Science Center into the region’s hands-on STEM learning center.

Dr. Matthews is a graduate of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, where she double majored in electrical and biomedical engineering. She holds a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Anna Bartkowski has been named assistant director and deputy Title IX officer at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She most recently served as the founding executive director of the Hays County Dispute Resolution Center, a startup nonprofit organization.

Bartkowski is a graduate of Saint Edward’s University in Austin, Texas, where she majored in business administration. She holds a master’s degree in legal studies from Texas State University.

Kasey Helton has been named associate vice president for campus services at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She previously served as assistant vice president for campus services at Kennesaw State University in Georgia.

Dr. Helton is a graduate of Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee, where she majored in religion. She holds a master’s degree in college student counseling and student personnel services from the University of Tennessee, an MBA from Southern Polytechnic State University in Marietta, Georgia, and an educational doctorate in student affairs leadership from the University of Georgia.

Lori Beth Finkelstein has been named director and curator of the Evergreen Museum and Library at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. She was vice president of education, interpretation, and volunteer programs at the Maryland Zoo.

Dr. Finkelstein is a graduate of McGill University in Montreal, where she majored in North American studies. She holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. both in U.S. history from New York University.

Alison Peirce has been named executive director of the Vistex Institute for Executive Learning and Research at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. She previously served as the practice leader of financial and professional services for Wharton Executive Education.

Peirce is a graduate of the State University of New York at Rochester where she majored in history. She holds an MBA from Northwestern University.
