Grants or Gifts Relating to Women in Higher Education

Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.

Saint Joseph’s College in Standish, Maine, has received a nearly $300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice to support training and prevention efforts regarding sexual assault, interpersonal violence, and stalking. The three-year grant will involve three phases with the first year consisting of planning and determining the college’s unique needs regarding sexual misconduct issues, the second year consisting of implementing training and prevention efforts to change the campus culture, and the third year consisting of evaluating the college’s progress over the course of the project.

The College of Business Administration at Marquette University in Milwaukee has received a $1 million gift from June and Herman Loebl to establish the June and Herman Loebl Women Business Leaders Speaker Series. The new speaker series highlights women in business and leadership roles who make a difference in their community.

Susan McDonough, an assistant professor of history at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, has received a 2019-2020 National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship to further research on women’s experiences in the medieval Mediterranean. She will complete a year of archival research in Barcelona, Marseille, and other Mediterranean port cities, which will be used as the foundation for a new book.
