Pennsylvania Governor Announces $5 Million Investment in “Women With Children” Program

Governor of Pennsylvania, Tom Wolf recently visited Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania, to support the school’s “Women With Children” program.

The program provides housing for single mothers and their children, so the mothers can pursue a college education. It was first established 20 years ago and currently has three houses that can house 16 families. The program has graduated 30 mothers since its inception.

Currently, there are only eight programs of this kind at colleges across the country. Governor Wolf announced that in his 2019 budget, he is including a $5 million investment for such programs at Misericordia and other higher educational institutions.

“The program empowers single moms by providing the opportunity to complete a college degree, creates a brighter future for them, but it also creates a brighter future for the children,” said Governor Wolf.
