Women Appointed to Dean Positions at Four Universities

Kimberly Mutcherson has been named co-dean of Rutgers Law School. She will oversee the Camden campus. Professor Mutcherson currently serves as vice dean and professor of law. She has been a Rutgers faculty member since 2002. Professor Mutcherson’s new appointment makes her the first woman, the first African-American, and the first LGBT law dean at Rutgers University.

Professor Mutcherson holds a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Pennsylvania and a juris doctorate from Columbia Law School.

Hannah Carter has been named dean of University of Maine Cooperative Extension, effective May 1. Currently, Dr. Carter serves as an associate professor in the department of agriculture education and communication at the University of Florida. She also directs Wedgworth Leadership Institute for Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of Florida, and is interim director of the UF/IFAS Center for Leadership.

Dr. Carter is a graduate of the University of Maine at Presque Isle. She holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. both in agricultural education and communication with a focus in agricultural leadership and extension education from the University of Florida.

Linda Kern has been named dean of library services at Brenau University in Gainesville, Georgia. She previously served as the university library’s research and instruction director. She is the university’s first librarian to hold the rank of full professor, teaching first-year courses including the first-year experience seminar, foundations for success, and library research.

Professor Kern holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Tulane University in New Orleans and a master of library sciences degree from Southern Connecticut State University.

Kimberly Foster is the new dean of the School of Science and Engineering at Tulane University. She was previously a professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Dr. Foster holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan Technological University and a Ph.D. in theoretical and analytic mechanics from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
