Five Women Scholars Taking on New Faculty Assignments at Major Universities

Yan Long has been named an assistant professor of sociology at the University of California, Berkeley. She was a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University.

Dr. Long holds a bachelor of law and a master of law both from Beijing University in China and a joint Ph.D. in sociology and women’s studies from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Jeanette Bauchat has been named an associate professor of anesthesiology and chief of the Division of Obstetric Anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. She was an associate professor at Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation.

Dr. Bauchat holds a medical doctorate from Northwestern University.

Deborah Kelly has been named full professor and the Lloyd and Dottie Foehr Huck Chair in Molecular Biophysics in the department of biomedical engineering at Pennsylvania State University. She was an associate professor at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute.

Dr. Kelly holds a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and a master’s degree in chemistry both from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, and a Ph.D. in molecular biophysics from Florida State University.

Michelene Chi has been named a Regents’ Professor at Arizona State University. She is the Dorothy Bray Endowed Professor of Science and Teaching in the Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College.

Dr. Chi holds a Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

Cathy Whitlock has been named a Regents’ Professor for the Montana University System. She has been a professor in the department of earth science at Montana State University since 2004.

Dr. Whitlock holds a bachelor’s degree in geology from Colorado College. She earned a master’s degree and Ph.D. both in geological sciences from the University of Washington.
