Three Women Announce Their Retirements From High-Level Posts in the Academic World

Carolyn Ashe is retiring as professor and director of the Institute for Business Ethics, and Public Issues in the Davies College of Business at the University of Houston-Downtown. She was granted emerita status recognizing her 30 years of service, academic accomplishments, and leadership to the university. Dr. Ashe served as faculty senate president and earned several honors including multiple teaching excellence awards and professional/institutional service awards.

Dr. Ashe earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and an MBA in management from the University of North Texas and her doctorate from the University of Houston.

Pat Thompson, the vice president of athletics at Elmira College in New York, will be retiring at the end of this year. She has held this position since 2000 and has worked at the college for the past 43 years. Her previous positions at Elmira College included director of camps and clinics, director of sports information, assistant director of athletics, and athletic director. She was also the coach of the Elmira College cheerleading team for 23 seasons.

Thompson holds a bachelor’s degree from Elmira College.

Fiona Doyle, vice provost of graduate studies and dean of the graduate division at the University of California, Berkley, will be retiring at the end of this academic year. She joined the faculty of the College of Engineering in 1983. Since then, she has held many positions at the university including, chair of the academic senate, chair of the department of materials science and engineering, and associate dean and acting dean of the College of Engineering.

Dr. Doyle holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Cambridge in England and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in hydrometallurgy from Imperial College at the University of London.
