Sixteen New Tenure-Track Women Faculty at Wesleyan University in Connecticut

Sixteen women have been appointed to tenure-track positions at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut.

Talia Andrei has been named an assistant professor of art history. She was a two-year Mary Griggs Burke Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow at Columbia University.

Dr. Andrei holds a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and a master’s degree and Ph.D. from Columbia University.

Amy Grillo has been named associate professor of the practice in education studies. She was a visiting professor of psychology and education at Mount Holyoke College.

Dr. Grillo holds a bachelor’s degree in education studies and studio art from Brown University, a master’s degree in counseling and consulting psychology and a doctorate in education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Alison O’Neil has been named assistant professor of chemistry. She was a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University.

Dr. O’Neil holds a bachelor’s degree in cellular and molecular biology from Binghamton University and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Montana State University.

Mengjun Liu has been named assistant professor of the practice in Chinese. Throughout her career, she has taught Chinese at various other universities including Fairfield University, Connecticut College, and Boston College.

Professor Liu holds a bachelor’s degree from Beijing Normal University and a master’s degree in linguistics and applied linguistics from Najing Normal University in China.

Gillian Brunet has been named assistant professor of economics. She was a postdoctoral fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Dr. Brunet holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and government from Smith College and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley.

Marina Bilbija has been named assistant professor of English. She was previously a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard and Tufts University.

Dr. Bilbija holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Sarajevo, and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in English and Africana studies from the University of Pennsylvania.

Danielle Vogel has been named assistant professor of the practice in creative writing. She has previously taught at the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics, the University of Washington at Bothell, and Brown University.

Dr. Vogel holds a bachelor’s degree from Dowling College, a master’s degree from Naropa University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Denver.

Sara Kališnik Verovšek has been named assistant professor of mathematics. She was a postdoctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in Science in Leipzig, Germany.

Dr. Kališnik Verovšek holds a bachelor’s degree and Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Ljubljani in Slovenia and a Ph.D. in mathematics from Stanford University.

Cori Anderson has been named assistant professor of the practice in molecular biology and biochemistry. She was an assistant professor of biology at Concordia College in Minnesota.

Dr. Anderson holds a bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College and a Ph.D. in biological science from Dartmouth College.

Axelle Karera has been named assistant professor of philosophy. She previously taught at Florida Atlantic University.

Dr. Karera holds a bachelor’s degree from York University and a Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University.

Min-Feng Tu has been named assistant professor of the practice in physics. She recently completed her doctorate this summer.

Dr. Tu holds a bachelor’s degree from National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan, and a master’s degree and Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology.

Alexis May has been named assistant professor of psychology. She was a postdoctoral fellow at the National Center for Veterans Studies in the department of psychology at the University of Utah.

Dr. Mary is a graduate of Wesleyan University where she studied psychology and neuroscience and behavior. She holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of British Columbia.

Mitali Thakor has been named assistant professor of science in society. She was a postdoctoral fellow at Northwestern University in sexuality studies and anthropology.

Dr. Thakor holds a bachelor’s degree in anthropology from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in history, anthropology, and science and technology studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Katherine Brewer Ball has been named assistant professor of theater. She has been a postdoctoral fellow and a visiting assistant professor at Wesleyan University.

Dr. Brewer Ball holds a bachelor’s degree from Occidental College in Los Angeles and a master’s degree and Ph.D. in performance studies from New York University.

Elizabeth Hepford has been named assistant professor of the practice in English as a second language. She taught ESL at Temple University and has taught English as a foreign language at various universities abroad as well.

Dr. Hepford holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Kansas, a master’s degree in teaching ESL from Arizona State University, and a Ph.D. in applied linguistics from Temple University.

Lauren Silber has been named assistant professor of the practice in academic writing. She has previously taught at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and was most recently a writing center associate at Amherst College.

Dr. Silber holds a bachelor’s degree in English and economics from the University of Connecticut and a Ph.D. in English and American studies from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
