A Trio of Women Scholars Honored With Prestigious Awards

Liane Young, associate professor of psychology at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, has been selected to receive the Early Career Award from the Psychonomic Society, an organization that focuses on the experimental study of cognition. Dr. Young will be honored at the society’s annual meeting in New Orleans this November.

Dr. Young joined the faculty at Boston College in 2011. She holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Harvard University.

Lynne Steuerle Schofield, an associate professor of statistics at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, received the Waller Education Award from the American Statistical Association. She was honored for her “outstanding contributions to and innovations in the teaching of elementary statistics.”

Dr. Schofield is a graduate of Swarthmore College, where she majored in mathematics. She holds a Ph.D. in statistics and public policy from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

Deborah Reed, a professor in the College of Nursing at the University of Kentucky, received the Award for Excellence With Health and Safety from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents. She was honored for her Farm Dinner Theater program that encourages farmers to think more about occupational health, safety, and disease prevention.

Dr. Reed holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, a master of public health degree and a Ph.D., all from the University of Kentucky.
