New Administrative Positions for 10 Women in Higher Education

Etienne M. Thomas was named director of athletics at Kentucky State University in Frankfort. Since 2017, she has served as associate director of athletics for student life at the University of Kansas. Earlier she was an athletics administrator for eight years at North Carolina Central University, rising to the rank of senior associate athletics director for internal operations/senior woman administrator.

Thomas is a graduate of North Carolina Central University, where she majored in political science. She is studying for a master of athletic administration degree at North Carolina Central University and has completed coursework for a juris doctorate at the University of Iowa College of Law.

Karin Martinez was appointed an extension family life and child development specialist in the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences at New Mexico State University. She was the county program director for the Dona Ana County Cooperative Extension Service.

Martinez holds two bachelor’s degrees, a master’s degree, and a doctorate in educational leadership, all from New Mexico State University.

Shirley Moy is the new executive director of the North Philadelphia Workforce Initiative at Temple University. Since 2009, she has been the director of the Center for Social Policy and Community Development in the College of Public Health at the university.

Moy is a graduate of West Chester University in Pennsylvania. She holds a master of social work degree from Temple University.

Colleen Briney was promoted to vice provost for planning at the University of Arkansas. She was associate vice chancellor for business affairs. She joined the staff at the university in 1983.

Briney is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, where she majored in political science. She holds a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Arkansas.

Jodi Canfield will be the next director of athletics at Sweet Briar College in Virginia. Since 2014, she has served as assistant athletics director at St. Lawrence University in New York.

Dr. Canfield holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from St. Lawrence University. She earned a Ph.D. at Syracuse University in New York.

Robin Randall was named interim vice president for enrollment management at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She was assistant vice president for enrollment and student financial services at Wheaton College in Massachusetts. She served on the staff there for 22 years.

Randall is a graduate of Ithaca College in New York, where she majored in communications. She holds an MBA from Simmons College in Boston.

Wanda Ford was appointed vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. She joined the staff at the university in 2001 and since 2013 has been executive director of Title III programs.

Dr. Ford earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Albany State University in Georgia. She holds a master’s degree in organizational management and a doctor of management degree in organizational leadership from the University of Phoenix.

Kristin J. Weyman was named associate dean for undergraduate students at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. She was associate dean for student success at Ohio Wesleyan University. Earlier, Weyman was associate dean for students at Claremont McKenna College in California.

Weyman is a magna cum laude graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont, where she majored in Italian. She holds a master’s degree in higher education administration and policy from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Nadine Gjerde was named the American With Disabilities Act coordinator at South Dakota State University. She was a senior vocational rehabilitation coordinator for the South Dakota Division of Rehabilitation Services.

Gjerde holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in counseling and human resource development from South Dakota State University.

Meloney G. Linder was appointed vice president for marketing and communications at the University of North Dakota, effective September 4. She has been serving as associate dean for communications, facilities, and technology at the School of Business of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Linder is a graduate of the University of Denver, where she majored in mass communications. She holds a master’s degree in organizational management from Ashford University.
