A Diverse Group of Women Scholars Promoted and Granted Tenure at Connecticut College

Connecticut College, the selective liberal arts educational institution in New London, has announced the promotion of seven faculty members to the rank of associate professor. The seven scholars were also granted tenure. Three of the seven faculty members awarded tenure are women.

Waed Athamneh was appointed associate professor of Arabic studies. Dr. Athamneh, who joined the college’s faculty in 2011, is a specialist in Arabic literature who focuses on modern Arabic poetry and 20th century Arab politics. She is the author of Modern Arabic Poetry: Revolution and Conflict (University of Notre Dame Press, 2017). Dr. Athamneh holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Yarmouk University in Jordan. She earned a Ph.D. at Indiana University.

Priya Kohli was promoted to associate professor of statistics. She specializes in the areas of covariance modeling, longitudinal/panel studies, multivariate modeling, missing data, time series, spatial statistics and spatio-temporal modeling. Dr. Kohli joined the faculty at Connecticut College in 2012. A graduate of Delhi University in India, Dr. Kohli earned a master’s degree in agricultural statistics from the Indian Agricultural Statistics Research Institute. She holds a second master’s degree in applied probability and statistics from Northern Illinois University and a Ph.D. in statistics from Texas A&M University.

Mónika López-Anuarbe was named an associate professor of economics. She is a health and inequality economist specializing in aging, caregiving and health-care disparities. Dr. López-Anuarbe has taught at the college since 2006. Dr. López-Anuarbe holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from the Universidad de Costa Rica. She earned a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Connecticut.
