Joanne Passaro Named the Sixth President of Metropolitan College of New York

Metropolitan College of New York, with campuses in Manhattan and the Bronx, has selected Joanne Passaro as its sixth president. She will take office on July 1.

Metropolitan College of New York enrolls about 700 undergraduate students and more than 350 graduates students according to the most recent statistics supplied to the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 74 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Since 2007, Dr. Passaro has served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin. Earlier in her career, Dr. Passaro served as interim vice president for academic Affairs at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, and for seven years served in a number of positions at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York, including acting provost and vice president for academic affairs and vice president for planning and institutional assessment.

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Passaro holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. She is the author of The Unequal Homeless: Men on the Streets, Women in their Place (Routledge, 1996).
