In Memoriam: Elizabeth Reinhardt Mabry, 1921-2018

Elizabeth Mabry, a long-time faculty member in the School of Nursing at Emory University in Atlanta, died on June 6 in the hospice unit at Emory Hospital. She was 96 years old.

Dr. Mabry was a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, and grew up on a family farm. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Duke University. After serving as a nurse in France during World War II, she earned a master’s degree in nursing at Columbia University in New York City. Later in life, she was awarded a doctorate in education from the University of Georgia.

Dr. Mabry joined the nursing faculty at Emory University in 1948. She remained on the faculty for a half century, retiring in 1998. She was the first person to donate funds to Emory University for 45 consecutive years.

The Elizabeth Mabry Scholarship Fund has been established at the university to provide funds for nursing students.
