Four Women Scholars Are Stepping Down From Their University Posts

Naomi Hanaoka McGloin, a professor in the department of Asian languages and cultures at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is retiring. She joined the faculty at the university in 1976. Professor McGloin is the co-author of the textbook An Integrated Approach to Intermediate Japanese. She is a former president of the American Association of Teachers of Japanese.

A native of Hiroshima, Professor McGloin is a graduate of International Christian University in Mitaka, Japan, where she majored in English. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.

Joyce Ice, the founding director of the Art Museum of West Virginia University is retiring on July 7. She was hired in 2009 to oversee the planning and the development of the museum, which opened in 2015. The museum holds more than 3,000 works of art. Prior to joining the staff at West Virginia University, Dr. Ice was director of the Museum of International Folk Art in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Dr. Ice is the editor of On Collecting: From Private to Public, Featuring Folk and Tribal Art from the Diane and Sandy Breuer Collection (University of Washington Press, 2009). She holds a Ph.D. in anthropology and folklore from the University of Texas at Austin.

Suzanne Reynolds, dean of the Wake Forest University School of Law, announced that she will step down from her post on June 30, 2019. She will remain at the law school as a member of the faculty. Professor Reynolds is the first woman to serve as dean of the law school at Wake Forest University.

Professor Reynolds is a graduate of Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. She holds a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a law degree from Wake Forest University.

Judith Hough-Goldstein was named professor emerita of entomology and wildlife ecology at the University of Delaware.

Dr. Hough-Goldstein is a graduate of Harvard University, where she majored in biology. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in entomology from Cornell University.
