Florida Atlantic University to Launch a Program for Women in Leadership

Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton is using a gift from alumna Kathleen E. Brush to establish a women’s leadership program at the university. Dr. Brush, a business executive, consultant, and author, donated $1.3 million to university that will be used to fund the Kathleen Brush Program for Women in Leadership.

The Kathleen Brush Program for Women in Leadership will be a certificate program that will be part of FAU’s Executive Education offerings. The program will feature a mentoring program and will emphasize applying theory-to-practice and networking. Each cohort of students will provide a great opportunity to develop a lasting network that helps one another move forward. The academic focus will address women-specific challenges, such as being a mother and a leader and dealing with gender bias.

“For the past 15 months, I have been working with FAU and women business leaders in South Florida to develop a program that is designed to give women a competitive skills advantage over their male competitor,” Dr. Brush said. “We believe this formula will increase the probability that our graduates are promoted.”

Dr. Brush is the author of The Power of One: You’re the Boss. She is a graduate of the University of Central Florida. Dr. Brush earned an MBA at Florida Atlantic University and holds a Ph.D. in management and international studies form the Union Institute in Cincinnati.
