Elizabeth Meade Appointed President of Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania

The board of trustees of Cedar Crest College, the liberal arts educational institution for women in Allentown, Pennsylvania, has named Elizabeth M. Meade as president. She has been serving as interim president since former president Carmen Twillie Ambar left last summer to become president of Oberlin College in Ohio.

According to the latest data from the U.S. Department of Education, the college enrolls about 1,500 undergraduates and more than 200 graduate students. Only women are permitted to reside on campus and they make up 87 percent of all undergraduate students.

Prior to becoming interim president in July 2017, Dr. Meade served as provost for five years. Earlier, she was chair of the department of humanities at the college.

In a statement, Dr. Meade said, “Cedar Crest College has built an incredible foundation, a clear mission and vision for the future, and an especially strong community to support this vision. I am confident Cedar Crest will continue to be a vibrant and leading force in higher education.”

Dr. Meade is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, where she majored in German language and literature. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in philosophy from Boston College.
