A Trio of Women Academics Who Are Being Honored With Prestigious Awards

Polly Piergiovanni, a professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, received the William H. Corcoran Award from the American Society for Engineering Education. Professor Piergiovanni was honored for authoring the most outstanding peer-reviewed article published in the quarterly journal Chemical Engineering Education in 2017.

Dr. Piergiovanni is a graduate of Kansas State University. She holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Houston.

Nancy Lowenstein, an extension specialist at Auburn University in Alabama, received the 2018 Leadership in Education Award from Project Learning Tree, an environmental education program coordinated by the Alabama Forestry Association.

An invasive species specialist, Lowenstein received the award for her promotion of environmental education in Alabama.

Susan Scholz, associate dean and Porter Faculty Fellow in the School of Business at the University of Kansas, has been selected to receive the 2018 Deloitte Foundation Wildman Medal Award from the American Accounting Association. Dr. Scholz is being honored for outstanding research relevant to the professional practice of accounting. She will received the award in August at the American Accounting Association’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C.

Professor Scholz is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Utah, where she majored in accounting. She earned a Ph.D. in business at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
