Teresa Leyba-Ruiz Appointed President of Glendale Community College in Arizona

Teresa Leyba-RuizThe Maricopa County Community College District in Arizona has announced that Teresa Leyba-Ruiz will be the next president of Glendale Community College. Dr. Ruiz has been serving as interim president for the past 18 months.

Glendale Community College enrolls 19,000 students, according to the latest data submitted to the U.S. Department of Education. Women make up 54 percent of the student body.

Before being named interim president, Dr. Ruiz served in a number of other posts at the college including interim dean of instruction, associate vice president for academic and student affairs, and vice president of student affairs. Before joining the staff at Glendale Community College, Dr. Ruiz taught mathematics for 16 years at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, where she served as division chair for mathematics.

Dr. Ruiz holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary mathematics education and a doctorate in higher and postsecondary education from Arizona State University. She also earned a master’s degree in education at Northern Arizona University.
