Two Women Retiring From High-Level Posts at Major Research Universities

Julie Browning has announced that she will step down from her position as dean of undergraduate enrollment at Rice University in Houston, Texas, on July 1. She has served on the staff at the university for 27 years.

Earlier in her career, Browning held admissions posts at Duke University, Meredith College in North Carolina, and Rhodes College in Memphis. This summer she will become director of college counseling at St. John’s School in Houston.

Rosemary Magee, director of the Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives, and Rare Book Library at Emory University in Atlanta, is taking a one-year sabbatical before retiring. She has served in this role since 2012. Earlier, Dr. Magee served as vice president and secretary of the university, senior associate dean of Emory College, and several other positions.

Dr. Magee first came to Emory in 1977 as a Ph.D. student in religion and literature.
