New Roles for 10 Women Faculty Members at U.S. Colleges and Universities

Meera Deo, a professor at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California, was named director of the Law School Survey of Student Engagement, based at Indiana University in Bloomington.

Professor Deo is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and the University of Michigan Law School. She also earned a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Arris Golden was appointed assistant director of bands and associate director of the Spartan Marching Band at Michigan State University. She will also teach courses in music education at the university.

Golden has been serving as the director of the Marching Tar Heels band at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Earlier, she was director of athletic bands at Campbell University in Buies Creek, North Carolina.

Lindsey Clark-Ryan was promoted to associate professor of art at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. She was also granted tenure. Clark-Ryan teaches printmaking, drawing and interdisciplinary studio art courses at Smith College.

Clark-Ryan is graduate of Washington University in St. Louis. She holds a master of fine arts degree and a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Leonie Jacobs is a new assistant professor of animal and poultry science at Virginia Tech. Her research focuses on humane treatment for poultry.

Dr. Jacobs holds master’s degrees in animal science from the Swedish Agricultural University and Wageningen University. She earned a doctorate in veterinary science from Ghent University in Belgium.

Stella Christie was promoted to associate professor of psychology at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. She was also granted tenure. Her current research is focused on how analogical and comparison learning play a role in the development of social cognition. A native of Indonesia, Dr. Christie joined the faculty at Swarthmore in 2012.

Dr. Christie is a magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University. She earned a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology from Northwestern University.

Lisa Monteggia will join the faculty at Vanderbilt University in Nashville this summer as a tenured professor and director of the Vanderbilt Brain Institute. She currently holds the Ginny and John Eulich Professorship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Dr. Monteggia holds a bachelor’s degree in microbiology and a master’s degree in biology from the University of Illinois. She earned a Ph.D. from Rosalind Franklin University in Chicago.

Natalie Hogan was named chair of the department of pediatrics for the Savannah campus of the Mercer University School of Medicine in Georgia. She has been on the medical school’s faculty since 1997.

Dr. Hogan is a graduate of the University of Georgia and the Medical College of Georgia.

Jessica Cooperman was promoted to associate professor of religion at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. She was also granted tenure.

Dr. Cooperman is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in philosophy. She holds two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in modern Jewish history from New York University.

Nadia Ward, an associate professor of psychiatry at Yale University, was named deputy director of the Yale Doctoral Internship Training Program in Clinical and Community Psychology at the university. The program, founded in 1970, hosts 15 fellows annually for one year.

Dr. Ward is a graduate of Allegheny College in Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling and a Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Pittsburgh.

Angela Murray, an assistant research professor in education at the University of Kansas, was appointed director of the Center for Montessori Research at the university. The new center is the first university-based organization dedicated to research on Montessori education.

Dr. Murray holds a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from the University of Texas at Arlington. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in psychology and research in education from the University of Kansas.
