Jan Murphy Appointed Provost at Illinois State University

Jan MurphyJan Murphy is the new vice president of academic affairs and provost at Illinois State University. She has served in these posts on an interim basis since January 2017.

Illinois State University, located in Normal in the central part of the state, enrolls about 19,000 undergraduates and 2,400 graduate students. Women make up 55 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Murphy joined the faculty at Illinois State University in 1986 as an assistant professor of family and consumer science. She was promoted to full professor in 1995. She served as associate provost for 10 years and has been chair of the department of family and consumer sciences.

Dr. Murphy holds a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics, a master’s degree in human nutrition, and a Ph.D. in nutrition research, all from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
