New Administrative Duties for 10 Women in Higher Education

Victoria M. Chun was appointed director of athletics, physical education, and recreation at Yale University. For the past six years, she has been vice president and director of athletics at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York. Earlier, she was commissioner of the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association.

Chun holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in history from Colgate University. An accomplished volleyball player and coach, Chun is believed to be the only person in NCAA Division I history to earn both player and coach of the year in the same conference in addition to winning conference championships in those two roles.

Kelly Ratliff is the new vice chancellor of finance, operations, and administration at the University of California, Davis. She has served in the role on an interim basis since May 2016. Earlier, she was senior associate vice chancellor for budget and instructional analysis.

Ratliff holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of California, Davis.

Gail Marsh is the inaugural chief strategy officer at Ohio State University. She has been serving as senior associate vice president in the Office of Health Sciences at the university and as chief strategy officers for the Wexner Medical Center.

Marsh holds a bachelor’s degree in health information management and a master’s degree in healthcare business management, both from Ohio State University.

Kirsten Britton was appointed senior associate director of athletics for sport administration at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Since 2016, she has served as associate director of athletics for facilities, operations, and events for the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. Earlier, she was assistant athletics director for event management at the University of Connecticut.

Britton is a 2003 graduate of Providence College in Rhode Island, where she majored in psychology.

Ellen Piekalkiewicz was named director of the Center for the Study and Promotion of Communities, Families, and Children in the College of Social Work at Florida State University. She was the executive director of United Partners for Human Services in Florida.

Piekalkiewicz is a graduate of Grinnell College in Iowa. She earned a master’s degree at the University of Kansas.

Anne C. Hayes is the new senior advisor to the president and associate vice president for administrative services at Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina. For the past five years, Dr. Hayes has served as dean of institutional effectiveness and projects at Southside Virginia Community College in Alberta, Virginia.

Dr. Hayes is a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, where she majored in environmental studies and religion. She holds a master’s degree in religious studies from the University of Colorado and a Ph.D. in social foundations from the University of Virginia.

Amy Galpin was appointed chief curator at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum on the campus of Florida International University in Miami. She was curator at the Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.

Dr. Galpin holds a master’s degree in Latin American studies from San Diego State University and a Ph.D. in art history from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Carol Viventi was named vice president and special counsel to the president at Michigan State University. She has been serving as deputy director of the Michigan Department of Civil Rights.

Viventi is a graduate of Michigan State University, where she majored in social science. She earned a juris doctorate the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan.

Ashley Blarney was promoted to Title IX coordinator for the University of Tennessee System. She has been serving as Title IX coordinator for the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and will continue in that role.

Dr. Blarney is a graduate of East Tennessee State University, where she majored in special education. She earned master’s and doctoral degrees in social work from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

Teresa A. Miller was named senior vice chancellor for strategic initiatives for the State University of New York System and chief of staff for the system’s chancellor. Professor Miller has been serving on the faculty at the University at Buffalo. There she also held the position as chief diversity officer.

Professor Miller is a graduate of Duke University and Harvard Law School. She also earned a master’s degree in law at the University of Wisconsin.
