In Memoriam: Cheryl Lynn Allen

Cheryl AllenCheryl Allen, a long-time professor of accounting at Morehouse College in Atlanta, died on January 29. Dr. Allen served on the faculty at Morehouse College for nearly a quarter century.

A native of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Professor Allen’s parents were both teachers in the city’s public school system. She earned a bachelor’s degree in 1981 from Clark College in Atlanta and an MBA from Atlanta University in 1983. She became a certified public accountant in 1986.

Dr. Allen joined the faculty of Morehouse College as an instructor in 1988 and rose to the rank of full professor. On two occasions she was named interim dean of the Business and Economics Division at Morehouse College, the first woman to serve as a dean in the division.

Professor Allen took a leave of absence to earned a doctorate in accountancy at the Terry College of Business of the University of Georgia in 1998. She taught at Morehouse during the 2017 fall semester and was scheduled to teach again this semester.
