In Memoriam: Mary Cole Farrow Long, 1922-2018

Mary C.F. LongMary C.F. Long, a long-time faculty member at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, died on January 20. She was 95 years old.

Professor Long was a native of Dallas, Texas. She earned a bachelor’s degree at Baylor University in 1944. After raising a family of four children, she returned to Baylor University to earn a master’s degree in 1965.

After completing her master’s degree, Long served on the faculty at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor for 18 years. There, she taught freshman and sophomore English and creative writing. During her tenure on the faculty, Long served as president of the Central Texas Poetry Society.

Professor Long was married for 66 years to Dr. William Bowman Long, a physician. In 2004 the couple were honored with the presentation of the Founders Medal at Baylor University. All four of the couple’s children and several of their 12 grandchildren are Baylor University graduates.
