Elizabeth Sayrs to Serve as Provost at Ohio University in Athens

Elizabeth SayrsElizabeth Sayrs, dean of University College and vice provost for undergraduate education at Ohio University in Athens, will serve as interim provost and executive vice president while a search for a permanent new provost is conducted.

Dr. Sayrs was named dean of University College in 2014. She is an associate professor of music theory and has served as chair of the Faculty Senate and as a faculty representative to the university’s board of trustees. Dr. Sayrs first joined the Ohio University faculty in 2004. She has served as editor of the Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy.

Dr. Sayrs is a summa cum laude graduate of Wellesley College in Massachusetts, where she majored in music. She holds a master’s degree in music theory from the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in New York, and a doctoral degree in music theory from Ohio State University.
