Four Women Named Distinguished Professors at Utah State University

Utah State University has named six faculty members as Distinguished Professors. The designation honors full-time faculty members who have performed “at a very high level in all areas of faculty responsibilities – teaching, research, and service.” Four of the six new Distinguished Professors are women.

Joyce Kinkead is a professor of English at the university. She has taught at the university since 1982 and was promoted to full professor in 1990. She has served as associate vice president for research. Professor Kinkead holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in English from the University of Central Missouri. She earned a doctorate in English education from Texas A&M University.

Patricia Lambert is a professor of anthropology. She joined the faculty at Utah State in 1996. From 2010 to 2016, Dr. Lambert was associate dean of research and graduate studies for the university’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences. Professor Lambert holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in anthropology, all from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Tammy Proctor is a professor and chair of the department of history at the university. Before joining the faculty in 2013, she served as the H.O. Hirt Endowed Professor at Wittenberg University in Ohio. She is the author or editor of several books including Civilians in a World at War, 1914-1918 (New York University Press, 2010). Professor Proctor is a graduate of the University of Missouri, where she majored in journalism and history. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in history from Rutgers University.

Frances Titchner is a professor of history and classics at Utah State University. She joined the university’s faculty in 1987. Since 1987, she has served as co-editor of Ploutarchos, the journal of the International Plutarch Society. Professor Titchener is a graduate of the University of Houston, where she majored in Classics and psychology. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in the Classics from the University of Texas.
