The New Dean of the Graduate School of Princeton University

The board of trustees of Princeton University in New Jersey has appointed Sarah-Jane Leslie as dean of the university’s Graduate School. The Graduate School enrolls about 2,700 students in 42 different departments and programs.

Professor Leslie joined the faculty at Princeton University in 2006 and was promoted to full professor in 2013. She is the Class of 1943 Professor of Philosophy, the vice dean for faculty development in the Office of the Dean of the Faculty, the director of the Program in Linguistics, and the founding director of the Program in Cognitive Science at Princeton University.

In accepting the appointment, Professor Leslie stated, “as a graduate alumna, I have a profound sense of the value of a Princeton graduate education. The Graduate School is nurturing not only the faculty of the future, but also those creative intellects who will go on to make vibrant extra-academic contributions to our public intellectual, cultural and economic flourishing.”

Professor Leslie is a summa cum laude graduate of Rutgers University, where she majored in philosophy, mathematics, and cognitive science. She earned a Ph.D. in philosophy at Princeton University.
