Two Women Scholars Resign Their Administrative Posts to Return to Full-Time Faculty Roles

Margaret Himley, associate provost for international education and engagement at Syracuse University in New York, has stepped down from her post, which she has held since 2011. Dr. Himley is the Laura J. and Douglas Meredith Professor of Teaching Excellence. She will return to the university in the fall of 2018 to resume her full-time faculty position.

Dr. Himley has been on the faculty at Syracuse University since 1983. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Illinois and a Ph.D. in composition and rhetoric from the University of Chicago.

Lisa Freinkel, dean of undergraduate studies at the University of Oregon, has stepped down to return to her full-time faculty post teaching English and comparative literature. Dr. Freinkel will devote more time to her work with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and to work on her book on the relationship between archetype and mindfulness. She is the author of Reading Shakespeare’s Will: The Theology of Figure from Augustine to the Sonnets (Columbia University Press, 2002).

Dr. Freinkel joined the faculty at the University of Oregon in 1995. She is a summa cum laude graduate of Harvard University and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
