Two Women Appointed to Positions as Deans at Major Universities

Angela Spalsbury was named dean and chief administrative officer of the Geauga campus of Kent State University in Burton, Ohio. The campus enrolls about 2,400 students. Women make up 63 percent of the student body.

Dr. Spalsbury currently serves as a professor and chair of the department of mathematics and statistics at Youngstown State University in Ohio. She will begin her new role on January 1. Professor Spalsbury holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in mathematics from Kent State University. She also earned a master’s degree at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.

Dianne Jemison-Pollard was named dean of the Honors College at Texas Southern University in Houston. For the past decade, Professor Jemison-Pollard has served as chair of the department of fine arts at the university. She has also served as associate dean for academic affairs for the Honors College. Dr. Jemison-Pollard has directed over 50 theatrical productions at the university.

Professor Jemison-Pollard is a graduate of Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. She holds a master’s degree in communications from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, a master of fine arts degree in directing from the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and an educational doctorate from Texas Southern University.
