Three Women Have Joined the Faculty of the School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at MIT

The School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has added nine new faculty members this fall. Three of the new hires are women.

Amah Edoh was appointed an assistant professor of African studies at MIT. She conducted postdoctoral research at MIT during the 2016-17 academic year. Dr. Edoh holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in history, anthropology and science from MIT. She also earned a master’s degree at Harvard University.

Lisa Parks is a professor of comparative media studies and the director of the Global Media Technologies and Culture Lab. She had been serving on the faculty at the University of California, Santa Barbara since 1998. Professor Park is the author of Cultures in Orbit: Satellites and the Televisual (Duke University Press, 2005). Dr. Parks is a graduate of the University of Montana, where she majored in political science and history. She holds a mater’s degree and a Ph.D. in communications arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Miriam Schoenfield is a new associate professor of philosophy at MIT. She spent the last two academic years as a Bersoff Fellow at New York University. Earlier, she was an assistant professor at the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Schoenfield is a graduate of Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, where she majored in philosophy, mathematics, and neuroscience. She holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from MIT.
