Nine Women Who Have Been Appointed to New Administrative Roles in Academia

Sharon Pitt was appointed vice president for information technologies at the University of Delaware. She was associate vice president of information technology services and chief information officer at Binghamton University in New York.

Pitt holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and a master’s degree in architecture from Virginia Tech.

Patrice Dickerson was named director of faculty diversity recruitment in the Office of Inclusion and Diversity at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She was the assistant executive dean for strategic recruitment and diversity at Ohio State University.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Dickerson taught African American studies at the University of Cincinnati. She holds a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Michigan.

LaSandra Robinson is the new director of admissions at Voorhees College. She is a former admissions officer at South Carolina State University in Orangeburg.

Robinson earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in school counseling from South Carolina State University.

Lisa Calvert was appointed vice president for advancement at Washington State University. She was also named CEO of the Washington State University Foundation. She has been serving as vice chancellor for institutional advancement at Texas Tech University.

Calvert is a graduate of Oklahoma State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural economics.

Allia L. Carter was appointed vice president for enrollment management and student affairs at Virginia Union University in Richmond. She was vice president for enrollment management and undergraduate studies at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Dr. Carter is a graduate of Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan. She holds a master’s degree in education from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

Karen Bull was named associate dean of University College at Syracuse University. She has serving in the post on an interim basis. Previously, she was manager of online programs for University College.

Dr. Bull is a graduate of Allegheny College in Pennsylvania. She holds a master degree in instructional technology from the University of Maine and a Ph.D. in education from Syracuse University.

Sheryl Haydel is the new director of communications and marketing at Dillard University in New Orleans. A former newspaper report, Dr. Haydel was an assistant professor in the department of communications at Xavier University in New Orleans from 2008 until 2017.

Dr. Haydel is a graduate of Clark Atlanta University. She holds a master degree in journalism from the University of Maryland, an MBA from the University of Wisconsin, and a Ph.D. in mass communication and journalism from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Wendi Bulkley was appointed associate athletic director for external relations at Dixie State University in St. George, Utah. She was the city manager for marketing, events and sales for Washington City, Utah.

Bulkley is a graduate of Utah Valley University, where she majored in business leadership and outdoor recreation. She will receive a master of public administration degree this fall from Southern Utah University.

Supra Kuppuswamy is the new Title IX coordinator and special assistant to the vice provost for equity and inclusion at Emory University in Atlanta. After working at Emory from 2006 to 2009, Kuppuswamy worked for two law firms in New York City.

Kuppuswamy is a graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where she majored in English. She earned her juris doctorate at Washington University School of Law in St. Louis.
