New York University’s Eileen Sullivan-Marx to Lead the American Academy of Nursing

Eileen Sullivan-Marx, the Erline Perkins McGriff Professor and dean of the Rory Meyers College of Nursing at New York University, has been named president-elect for the American Academy of Nursing. She will serve as president-elect from 2017 to 2019 and will transition to the role of the academy’s president in 2019 for a two-year term. The academy’s more than 2,400 members, known as fellows, are made up of nursing leaders in education management, practice, and research.

“Nurses are uniquely positioned to address the critical needs and concerns of patients across the country and the world — and do so every day,” said Dr. Sullivan-Marx. “It is an honor and privilege to serve the Academy and I look forward to working with all of the fellows to advance our field and patient-centered care.”

Dr. Sullivan-Marx joined the faculty at New York University in 2012 after teaching at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, where she was the Shearer Endowed Term Chair, Professor of Scholarly Practice, and associate dean for practice and community affairs.

Dr. Sullivan-Marx holds bachelor’s and doctoral degrees in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. She also earned a master’s degree in nursing from the University of Rochester in New York.
