A Quartet of Women Scholars Being Honored With Notable Awards

J. Ellen Gainor, professor in the department of performing and media arts at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, received the Ellen Stewart Award for Career Achievement in Academic Theatre from the Association for Theatre in Higher Education. She was honored for her scholarship, editorial leadership, and mentoring activities.

Professor Gainor is the co-author of The Norton Anthology of Drama (W.W. Norton, 2009). She is a graduate of Harvard University and received a master’s degree from the Yale School of Drama and a Ph.D. from Princeton University.

Helen Tempest, an assistant professor in the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine at Florida International University in Miami, has been selected to receive the 2017 Ira and Ester Rosenwaks New Investigator Award from the American Society of Reproductive Medicine. Her research focuses on male infertility.

Dr. Tempest holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in applied biology from Brunel University in London, England.

Lisa Eby, an associate professor of wildlife biology at the University of Montana received the Excellence in Fisheries Education Award from the American Fisheries Society at the organization’s annual meeting. The American Fisheries Society is the world’s largest and oldest professional organization for the fisheries profession and fisheries science.

Dr. Eby received her bachelor’s degree in zoology and a master’s degree in limnology and oceanography from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She holds a Ph.D. in aquatic ecology from Duke University.

Jennifer Bloom, an associate professor in the department of educational leadership and research methodology within the College of Education at Florida Atlantic University, will receive the Virginia N. Gordon Award for Excellence in the Field of Advising from NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising. She will be honored at the group’s annual conference in St. Louis this October.

Dr. Bloom joined the faculty at the university in 2015 after teaching at the University of South Carolina for eight years. She earned a doctorate in higher education administration at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1995.
