Janet Dudley-Eshbach Is Stepping Down as President of Salisbury University in Maryland

Janet Dudley-Eshbach, president of Salisbury University in Maryland, has announced that she will step down at the end of the academic year on June 30, 2018. The public university, located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, enrolls nearly 8,000 undergraduate students and 900 graduate students. Women are 55 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Dudley-Eshbach was named president of Salisbury University in 2000. She is the first woman to hold the position and the longest-serving woman president in the history of the University of Maryland System. Previously, she was president of Fairmont State University in West Virginia and provost at the State University of New York-Potsdam.

Dr. Dudley-Eshbach will serve for one year as a special adviser to the university. She will then return to the university as a faculty member in the fall of 2019.

President Dudley-Eshbach is a graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington. She earned a Ph.D. at El Colegio de Mexico in Mexico City.
