Nine Women Faculty Members in New Positions or Taking on New Duties

Sabrina Balgamwalla was appointed an assistant clinical professor at the Wayne State University Law School. She will also serve as director of the Asylum and Immigration Law Clinic. Previously, she taught at the University of North Dakota School of Law.

Balgamwalla is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. She earned her law degree at the Washington College of Law of American University in the nation’s capital.

Nicole Jacobs, an associate professor of psychology at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine, has been given the added duties of director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at the medical school. She will hold the title of associate dean of diversity and inclusion.

Dr. Jacobs is a graduate of the University of Washington. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Nevada.

Keville Frederickson is the founding director of the Ph.D. in nursing program in the College of Health Professions of Pace University in New York. Before coming to Pace University three years ago, Dr. Frederickson was the executive officer of the Ph.D. program in nursing at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

Dr. Frederickson holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in nursing, all from Columbia University in New York City.

Laura Vidler, a professor and chair of the department of modern languages and linguistics at the University of South Dakota, was given the added duties as associate dean of administration for the university’s College of Arts & Science. Before coming to the University of South Dakota, Professor Vidler taught Spanish at the United States Military Academy.

Dr. Vidler is a graduate of New York University. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of California, Irvine.

Carol Quinn was promoted to full professor of philosophy at Metropolitan State University in Denver. She is the first woman to serve as a full professor of philosophy at the university. She is the co-author of the novel The Rashomon Tea and Sake Shop (Rock’s Mill Press, 2016).

Dr. Quinn joined the faculty at Metropolitan State in 2007 after teaching at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from Syracuse University in New York.

Vinita Singh was named an assistant professor of medicine at Howard University in Washington, D.C. She will also serve as director of the hematology-oncology fellowship program.

Dr. Singh earned her medical degree at the Armed Forces Medical College in New Delhi, India.

Charkarra Anderson-Lewis was appointed interim chair of the department of public health at the University of Southern Mississippi. She joined the faculty at the university in 2004.

Dr. Anderson-Little holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master of public health degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. She earned a Ph.D. in health education and health promotion from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Katherine Holman was appointed to the Wilson H. Elkins Professorship at Towson University in Maryland. She teaches in the department of special education at the university. Dr. Holman joined the Towson University faculty in 2004.

Professor Holman holds a master’s degree from the University of Kansas and a doctorate in early childhood special education from the University of Maryland.

Melissa C. Thomas-Hunt was named a professor of management at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She will also serve as the inaugural vice provost for inclusive excellence at the university. Dr. Thomas-Hunt has been serving as senior associate dean and global chief diversity officer for the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.

Professor Thomas-Hunt is a graduate of Princeton University in New Jersey, where she majored in chemical engineering. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University in Illinois.
