Two Women Scholars Appointed to Interim Provost Positions at Universities

Laurie R. Weingart, the senior associate dean of education in the Tepper School of Business and the Richard M. and Margaret S. Cyert Professor of Organizational Behavior and Theory at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, was named interim provost at the university. She has been a member of the faculty at Carnegie Mellon since 1989.

Professor Weingart is a graduate of the University of Illinois, where she majored in industrial and organizational psychology. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in organizational behavior from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Susan Stapleton was appointed interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. She will serve in this role for the 2017-18 academic year. Since 2012, Dr. Stapleton has been dean of the Graduate College at the university. She is a professor of chemistry and a professor of biological sciences.

Professor Stapleton joined the faculty at Western Michigan University in 1990. She is a graduate of Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, and holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
