Dawn Tilbury Named to Head the Directorate of Engineering at the National Science Foundation

Dawn TilburyDawn Tilbury was named to lead the National Science Foundation’s Directorate for Engineering. The directorate provides about 43 percent of the federal funding for research in engineering at U.S. academic institutions. In fiscal year 2016, the directorate gave out about 2,500 new grant awards.

France Cordova, director of the National Science Foundation, also noted that Dawn Tilbury is “passionate about mentoring junior faculty, particularly junior women faculty, in their careers – a passion shared across NSF as we week to develop STEM talent from all sectors and groups in our society.”

Since 1995, Dr. Tilbury has served on the mechanical and electrical engineering faculty at the University of Michigan. She also served as associate dean for research in the College of Engineering.

Dr. Tilbury is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, where she majored in electrical engineering. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California, Berkeley.
