Susan Wessler Chosen as a Member of Britain’s Royal Society

Susan WesslerSusan Wessler, a distinguished professor of genetics at the University of California, Riverside was named a foreign member of the Royal Society, the leading science academy of the United Kingdom. The Royal Society dates back to the 1660s. Each year up to 52 fellows and 10 foreign scholars are elected to the society. There are currently about 1,600 fellows, including 80 members who have been awarded the Nobel Prize.

Dr. Wessler holds the Neil A. and Rochelle A. Campbell Presidential Chair for Innovation in Science Education in the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. She joined the faculty at the University of California, Riverside in 2010. Earlier, she taught at the University of Georgia for more than a quarter century.

Professor Wessler is a graduate of Stony Brook University of the State University of New York System. She holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University.
