In Memoriam: Gloria P. Hill, 1947-2017

Gloria HillGloria P. Hill, who served on the staff at Carnegie Mellon University for 35 years, died on May 3. She was 70 years old.

Dr. Hill was a graduate of Ohio University, where she majored in secondary education. She earned a master’s degree in counselor education and a Ph.D. in administration and policy studies at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Hill began her career as a high school teacher. She joined the staff at Carnegie Mellon University in 1972 as an academic adviser. Later, she was director of the Action Project, an academic support center for Carnegie Mellon students from underrepresented groups. She then served as assistant vice provost for education.

From 2004 to 2008, Dr. Hill was the liaison between the Carnegie Mellon’s main campus in Pittsburgh and it new campus in Doha, Qater. In 2008, she became assistant dean of the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences and director of the Academic Advisory Center. Dr. Hill retired in 2015.
