Barnard College Admits Its Most Selective Class in Its 127-Year History

Barnard CollegeBarnard College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution for women in New York City, reports that it sent acceptance letters to 1,139 women from around the world inviting them to become members of the Class of 2021. A record number of 7,716 students applied to Barnard College this year, up 8 percent from a year ago and an increase of 30 percent from five years ago. Admitted students come from 47 states and 39 foreign countries.

This admissions cycle has been the most competitive in the college’s 127-year history. Barnard admitted only 14.8 percent of all students who applied for admission. Just three years ago, Barnard admitted nearly one of four of all applicants.

Jennifer Fondiller, dean of enrollment management at Barnard College, stated that “we are thrilled to welcome the extraordinary Class of 2021 to campus this fall. These students embody the Barnard spirit — brimming with passion, curiosity, academic excellence and the desire to make a difference in the world. Young women are continually drawn to Barnard for its leadership initiatives, world-class faculty and unique opportunities to participate in research and internships that deepen understanding of their chosen fields of study.”
