Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, Names its Next President

The new president of Wright State UniversityThe board of trustees of Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio, has chosen Cheryl B. Schrader as the educational institution’s next president. When she takes office on July 1, Dr. Schrader will be the first woman to serve as president of Wright State University.

Wright State University enrolls nearly 13,000 undergraduates and more than 4,000 graduate students. Women make up 52 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Schrader currently serves as chancellor of the Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla. She is the first woman to serve as chancellor at the university. Before taking on that role in 2012, Dr. Schrader was associate vice president for strategic research initiatives and dean of the College of Engineering at Boise State University in Idaho.

In accepting her new position, Dr. Schrader noted that “we are facing a situation where we have more expectations and perhaps fewer resources. So we need to be very creative and innovative in how we do business and how we also interact with the students. Students are really our livelihood and that’s why we’re here. So being able to provide them with the best return on the investment that they make in us will require us to be working together as partners.

“This is the right time to be at Wright State,” added Dr. Schrader. “The university has built up its potential over the past decade and is poised to move to the next level. And that’s where I would like to be.”

A graduate of Valparaiso University in Indiana, Dr. Schrader holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame.
